Beauty and the Canadian Police: Halle Berry Angers Citizens at Montreal Airport

It was urgent that Halle Berry, her boyfriend, Gabriel Aubrey, and their 22-month-old daughter Nahla get through security quickly. They ran the risk of missing their early a.m. flight from Montreal back to Los Angeles due to long lines from heightened international security measures, they had a restless young child in tow, and, of course, the actress is urgently beautiful.

Those “tragic” circumstances are what convinced a Montreal police officer to whisk the family past hundreds of other passengers, at the last-minute request of Aubrey, angering many people that were in security lines at Montreal’s Trudeau airport on Monday, Jan. 4.

“It shocked me that we were waiting in line and there were other babies, other children,” said journalist Marieve Paradis of Los Angeles, who was scheduled to take the same flight as Berry. “Monday was chaotic at the airport, people were anxious and people were nervous and everyone was scared to miss their flights … I’m not sure people from Montreal are very happy to learn that money from their taxes is used for escorting celebrities.”

Canadidan police later said it was wrong for one of their officers to give special treatment to the actress.

“The officer took the personal initiative to allow them to go through the line faster, but that’s not something the Montreal police supports,” said Jimmy Cacchione, who runs the unit that patrols the airport.

The incident shamed the Montreal police force, causing a directive to be issued to its officers to avoid such practices in the future. Cacchione added that the officer would not face any disciplinary actions, but will be expected to abide by the stricter rules that would be instituted.
