“Relax, it’s just Twitter people.”
That’s Marlon Wayan’s mind-set when it comes to today’s most popular social networking platform. Wayans, who recently gained an affinity for Twitter and sends out daily tweets to his 171,000 followers and counting, believes that people can get out of hand with some of their interactions.
“It’s funny how people expect me to only tell jokes on Twitter,” says the actor-comedian. “And to some extent, I get it because that’s what I do. But there are times when I might want to send out an inspirational message and people will get offended. They will say things like:
‘Who the f— is this saying all of this inspirational bulls—. Bring Marlon back so we can laugh … more jokes n—a!!!’
“To me, that’s taking things too far. I don’t tell jokes 100 percent of the time. I might hear a voice in my head that’s telling me to say something positive, because someone out there needs that right now. So if that’s how I feel, then that’s what I’m going to do. Twitter is free, and it’s something that I do out of the kindness of my heart because I love the people that I interact with. Twitter may call them ‘followers,’ but I consider them to be my friends. And if I can take just one of those followers and turn them into a leader, then I’ve done my job.” –dewayne rogers
