The White House will be celebrating the music of the Civil Rights Movement next month and the invited performers will include John Legend, Jennifer Hudson and Natalie Cole, among others.

The concert, hosted by Morgan Freeman and Queen Latifah, will be held on Feb. 10 and will be broadcast the following day. Seal, Smokey Robinson, and the Blind Boys of Alabama are also slated to take part in the event.

The evening will include the Obamas and readings from civil rights speeches.

Earlier in the day, Mrs. Obama will have 120 high school students meet with the performers to talk about music’s influence on the Civil Rights Movement.

A worthy cause for sure, but President Obama is in the midst of dealing with legacy threatening changes within the political arena and some of his supporters, and certainly his detractors, are concerned that he’s not focused enough. This could just be more fodder for the criticism. –gerald radford
