All one can do is gasp.
Bauer, a Republican running for governor of South Carolina, made the malicious statement last Thursday during a town hall meeting. It, justifiably, has leaders across the state up in arms.
Dr. Lonnie Randolph, South Carolina president of the NAACP, called the comments “inhumane and disrespectful.” He went on to say it’s sad when a person “seeking the highest elected office in the state doesn’t understand that people who are in need are supposed to be helped.”
There’s more to the story of Lt. Gov Bauer and his loose lips, but the bigger issue is the foot-in-mouth disease that has been going around for a while. Slip after slip, ASSertion after ASSertion … shouldn’t there be some intervention from the CDC at this point? Rounding up the infected and placing them in involuntary quarantine doesn’t sound like a bad approach to controlling the problem.
Here’s a list of those that should be hunted down:
Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer – “Quit feeding stray animals … because they breed”
Senator Harry Reid – “… light-skinned … no Negro dialect”
President Bill Clinton – “Someone like him would normally be bringing us coffee.”
Radio host Mike Greenburg – “Martin Luther ‘Coon’ Day”
Don Imus – “Nappy headed hoes”
Rush Limbaugh – Pick one, any one …
Sean Hannity – Pick one, any one …
Pat Roberts – ‘Haiti made a deal with the devil…they’re cursed’
Glenn Beck – “Obama’s a racist who has deep seated hatred for white people”
Don “Moose” Lewis – “[Basketball] is being tainted by black [players] … fundamentally sound white players are a vanishing species.”
Certainly not an all-inclusive list, but it’s a great start on the road to cleaner air. –gerald radford
