Walker fired back in the media with a stern warning to the fallen slugger: “This is no joke,” he said. He assured that he “would hurt” Jose Canseco if they ever met in an MMA bout.
“Jose wants to do this for money,” Walker continued Wednesday on a Dallas radio station. “My thing is, if he wants to fight me and he thinks it’s going to be a circus, I will hurt him. This is not a joke, I will hurt him, because I don’t do things as a joke. I don’t do this as entertainment. If we go out and play a flag football game, that’s entertainment. We’re having fun. But this MMA fighting is real. You can get hurt, and he doesn’t understand it. I do this as an MMA fighter, not as a joke.”
Team Walker has said a Canseco-Walker bout is a long shot.
Walker announced in September 2009 that he had been signed by MMA promotion Strikeforce to compete in their heavyweight division. He began a 12-week training camp at the American Kickboxing Academy California in October 2009.
At press time, Walker was still wound up. –gerald radford
