Rajaan Bennett was only one semester away from graduating from high school and enrolling at Vanderbilt University. A star running back for McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga., Bennett had become one of the most sought after recruits in the nation. However, the 18-year-old ahlete lost his life after being shot at his home by his mother’s ex-boyfriend in a murder-suicide.
According to the Powder Springs Police Department, Bennett was shot by Clifton O’Neal Steger shortly after midnight. When the police arrived at the home minutes after receiving a 911 call, Bennett’s mother, Narjaketha Bennett, her wounded brother, Taiwan Hunter, and two children ran from the house. When the police entered the home, they found Rajaan Bennett and Steger mortally wounded.
Women and men must always thoroughly examine the people they choose to date and bring around their loved ones. Steger’s horrific actions have snuffed out a promising young man’s life. The loss will cause years of untold suffering for the Bennett family.
