Nas Faces Jail Time if Found in Contempt with ex-wife Kelis

alt

Rap royalty Nas swatted away ex-wife Kelis accusations that he failed to adhere to a court-ordered mandate to shovel thick stacks to Kelis in alimony and child support.

Nasir Jones plead not guilty before a New York judge after Kelis made a contempt filing alleging the Illmatic architect owes over $200,000 in child support and spousal payments. If Nas is found in contempt, he could face possible jail time.

In December, the court ruled that Nas was to fork over $50,000 a month – or $600,000 a year – because Nas’ annual gross income was $4 million. Though the famously prickly and independent-minded Kelis put out a string of major hits, she claimed she depended on Nas for survival.

She was pregnant with their child when Kelis filed for divorce in April. Nas was refused entry into the delivery room because he was reportedly intoxicated. There was also rampant rumors floating across the airwaves that the split emanated from Nas’ infidelity, but Kelis only cites irreconcilable differences.

However, a leaked version of a Nas song, “Strong Will Continue” addresses the imploding marriage of two A-list music stars. ““How in the hell am I supposed to stay comfy /When I pay child support, alimony monthly?…So I’ve stuck with some married women so fine/Cheating while their husband rushing on the 40-yard line / Wonder if this is what my ex did the whole time.”

The contempt hearing is scheduled for March 10. – terry shropshire
