NY Gov. David Paterson Out of 2010 Race: Flack Raised Over Role in Aide’s Abuse Case

The other shoe has dropped for New York Gov. David Paterson.

Paterson has decided not to seek election to a full term.

After allegations of improper interference in a top aide’s domestic abuse case by New York State Police and Paterson, top Democrats called for the governor to abandon his gubernatorial campaign.

According to the victim’s lawyer, Paterson telephoned the woman just prior to a court hearing in the case. New York State Police, which have no jurisdiction in the matter, are alleged to have pressured the woman to drop the case.

Paterson suspended his aide, David W. Johnson, without pay and, has said he will request that Attorney General Mario M. Cuomo investigate the administration’s involvement.

What is disturbing is that the Paterson administration has championed the rights of domestic violence victims, so if, in fact, they were involved in trying to suppress this case against one of their own, it is particularly galling. –michele fling
