Perry, who runs Tyler Perry Studios, wrote and produced Diary of a Mad Black Woman in 2005, the success of that film led to a string of movies, including Madea’s Family Reunion, Daddy’s Little Girls, the upcoming Why Did I Get Married Too?, Meet the Browns, The Family That Preys and I Can Do Bad All by Myself, a few of which he appeared in as his Madea character.
He joined the team of Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire as an executive producer. The movie, starring Gabourey Sidibe and Mo’Nique, is in the running for best picture, best director, best actress and best supporting actress.
Perry also created and directs the TBS sitcoms “House of Payne” and “Meet the Browns.”
The Academy Awards will be broadcast live on March 7 from the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. –gerald radford
