Paul Wall Learns to put Family First

altThere’s a good reason why Texas rapper, Paul Wall has kept a low profile on the music scene as of late and it has to do with slowing down his grind to put his family first in life.  Ever since his debut Paul has been one of the hardest working rappers in the business with frequent album releases, his popular Grills by Paul Wall company, his Expensive Taste clothing line and touring with the USO in Iraq and Afghanistan.  It was while he was bringing joy to the troops overseas that he realized all of his hard work was actually robbing himself, his wife, 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter of that same joy.alt

“During this last visit to Iraq and Afghanistan I was on the phone with my family and we missed each other so much. Sometimes in entertainment and music when you get so caught up in working that becomes your family. So when I got home it made me realize that I got to make it up and take care of my kids.”

Paul is grateful that he made this realization early on in his children’s life since he never wants them to experience the pain of growing up without a stable father figure; which is something he experienced during his early childhood.

“My dad left us and was on drugs. I was young and seeing kids with two families really hurt.  So growing up with my father abandoning us adds even more emphasis on putting my family first and everything else second. I don’t want them to ever feel how I did growing up.”

Paul revealed that he doesn’t know the whereabouts of his biological father and he has no wishes to be reunited.

“There’s no hard feelings on my side. It made me stronger and if not for him leaving then I would have never had my stepdad step in and have experienced that love.  So I don’t have any interest in reconnecting,” he said.

Paul has put the past behind him and is channeling all of his energy into being the best father he can be as he learns to successfully balance his demanding career, including work on his upcoming album, Heart of a Champion with his new number one priority: family. —souleo
