Universal Recording Artist Chris Newland Makes a Splash

altWith the debut of his lead single, “Pillow” Universal Music Group artist, Chris Newland’s genuine style and charisma are only matched by his drive and dedication. At age 22, the Grand Rapids, Mich. native has been keenly defined as a crooner and heartthrob. Not to mention he belts out runs and riffs like he’s been bellowing sultry tunes for years.

Newland’s love for music and knack for establishing a groove make a resounding statement in every detail. Raised and influenced by his dad, a musician himself, Newland’s versatile style can be traced back to soul roots and heavy-handed guitarist stock.
Welcome to soul music, circa Newland.

As a youngster, the budding high school athlete was always involved in various talent shows and sang in the school choir. Taking the stage during a high school talent show in his senior year of high school — Newland who had earlier performed with his rap group — decided to try his hand at a solo move. Singing Donnell Jones’ “Where I Want To Be” a cappella, he was a hit. It was at that moment the singer was born.
After graduating from high school, Newland decided to pursue his dream of a music career. With the encouragement of his peers, he sharpened his sound by spending endless hours in the studio perfecting his style and his music. Determined to create a sound of his own, that would capture the ear of listeners and industry execs alike, the anticipation for his project has become viral.

A candid and more focused look?
The young singer hasn‘t always been as polished as he is now. Newland, who was raised by his dad and whose mom was absent for the better half of his life, shared his life’s philosophy that, “you gotta go through some stuff.”
“My mom really wasn’t around like that until I was about 13. That’s when she stepped in and my father decided to pursue his own career. ”
altThe imbalance at home only encouraged and strengthened Newland’s drive.
Currently, you can find the singer still on the grind, as the anchor performance for Detroit’s Project: Next Bash Tour a school-wide tour promoting good grades among middle and high school age kids. The tour culminates with large concert at the Chene Park Amphitheatre for students at the end of the school year. When asked what fan’s can look forward to, he responds, “People can expect a smooth classy sound. As of right now, I’m doing a lot of writing on my project so there’s a lot of good stories people can relate to. I want be like a breath of fresh air!”  –f. carlton peeple
