The deadline for paying Uncle Sam is looming and people around the country are still trying to find a cheap or free way to file their federal and state income tax returns and maximize their refunds. For those still in need of assistance, ro has learned of three Web sites that can help you complete your taxes on time and possibly for free.
Thanks to a partnership between the Internal Revenue Service and the Free File Alliance, eligible taxpayers are now provided free federal income tax preparation and electronic filing through IRS.gov, as long as their adjusted gross income is less than $57,000 for the previous year. The site helps a user find a free file company or allows them to find a company on their own, some of which offer free state tax filing services. Once taxes have been submitted, users can also check on the status of their refunds throughout the filing process.
For charitable taxpayers, CharityDeductions.com is another helpful tool to use when filing. CharityDeductions.com is a Web-based valuation software site that allows taxpayers to determine the fair market value of their charitable donations and use them as deductions when they file their taxes. Taxpayers can get a one-year subscription to the site for $24.99 or subscribe for multiple years at a discounted price.
Furthermore, if you usually find yourself owing at year-end — or even receiving too big a refund due to inaccurate deductions, Paycheckcity.com is the site for you. Paycheckcity is an online withholding tax lookup service that offers taxpayers multiple free services including paycheck calculators, an hourly paycheck calculator, and W-4 form assistance. Users can also access extra free services such as a 401(K) planner and a gross pay calculator.
Money may be tight for everyone this season, but with these sites taxpayers can still file their taxes without breaking the bank.
