Shaquille O’Neal and his estranged wife, Shaunie, have finalized their divorce, TMZ reports. The two announced the split three years ago, but they then attempted to put the past behind them and try again. The damage was apparently already done, spurring them to move forward with the divorce proceedings in 2009, and citing irreconcilable differences as the cause.
When it was first announced that the two were having problems, Shaunie was accused of funneling money into private accounts and property into her own name, which breached Shaq’s trust. Meanwhile, Shaq was spending his free time allegedly stalking a young lady in Georgia who he had an ongoing relationship with and threatening to cause bodily harm. The young woman filed for a restraining order against the NBA star, but later withdrew her request for undisclosed reasons.
An attorney for Shaunie announced that all terms of the divorce, including property, custody and support, have now been settled.
The couple have four children (Shareef, Amirah, Shaqir, and Me’arah), and Shaunie has one child from a previous relationship (Myles). Shaq also has a daughter from a previous relationship (Taahirah).
