According to Gawker.com, Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti, the embattled foundation the artist founded to help the people of Haiti — which raked in millions following the devastating earthquake in the Caribbean nation — allegedly paid Jean’s personal assistant $105,000 in 2008. Yes, a personal assistant, $105K. Something else must be up.
According to the charity’s 2008 tax return, which was posted this week by the Smoking Gun, the charity paid Khatou-Chevassus $105,000 as an independent contractor in 2008 for “program development.” The site says that amounts to almost one-third of all Yele’s expenses combined.
What am I missing? Bam! And there it is: “Everyone knows they were in a relationship,” says a source familiar with Yele Haiti. “A dozen people, including me, saw and knew. It wasn’t a secret.”
Jean is married (though maybe not happily, thanks to a recent flap over a nude photo of his female manager found in his cell phone), but he has said in the past that he has an open relationship with his wife, according to Gawker.
With each new revelation, Yele continues to crumble and so does ‘Clef’s reputation. Maybe that’s why he was yelping like a wounded goat in the “We Are the World” remake. –gerald radford
