It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from producer, singer-songwriter Mario Winans but the time away from the spotlight was essential as he found himself grappling with the dark side of success.
“When you get successful you have people that plot, plan and try to put bad energy out or bad press and say things [or] whatever the case may be. Those situations make you angry or bitter and you bottle it all up and that can form a monster,” he says.
Winans soon realized that in order to progress he’d need to release the negative experiences he’s been through and reclaim his sense of identity.
“I had to break that shell and realize that there’s still a lot of good in me that I can give to the world. Mario is now a better person, more patient, more understanding and wiser. I’m much freer in my mind and my spirit. I’m very happy and God is blessing me,” Winans says.
Winans is now ready to bless his fans with his forthcoming new album, Love’s Highway, which he hints may be his last release.
“I will probably drop only one more album as an artist. I want to focus on some of my own artists. I’m really a record producer more so than an artist,” he says.
While finishing up the new album, Winans is busy looking for the next breakthrough artist with The Dream Big Artist Showcase tour, and he’s also collaborating in the studio with Diddy, Ashanti and numerous others. It sounds like a change is doing Winans a world of good. —souleo
