Maxwell is keen at keeping his fans off balance. First, he exploded onto the scene in the 1990s with a stunning succession of smoldering pillow jams that sent his female fan base soaring with fantasies about him. Then, at the peak of his popularity, Maxwell just disappeared like a person in the witness protection program.
Then, he surprised us all again. After an extended, self-imposed hiatus, Maxwell pops up out of nowhere with another baby-making CD set, BLACKsummers’night, that debuted at the top of the Billboard charts, the second album of his to do so. Powered by “Pretty Wings,” the album went on to garner six Grammy nods and two wins. Now Maxwell’s telling the world he’s ready to find someone to settle down with? The announcement is sure to set off a stampede from the herd of wanton women wanting to get at him.
On the eve of his celebrated tour with fellow sultry soul singer Jill Scott in Cleveland on May 21, Maxwell says he is now accepting applications for the spouse vacancy. During his long spell from the music game, Maxwell only had to worry about taking care of himself. But now the soul crooner says he ready for that special someone in his life.
“I want to eventually get married and have kids,” Maxwell told VIBE. “It’s not like I have a biological clock ticking. I’ve done the artist thing. I’ve had a lot of time with just being by myself just being selfish. I just know that I’m ready to be a dad and a husband.”
