Singer-songwriter and philanthropist Wyclef Jean went on a torrent via Twitter to refute the swarming allegations that he pilfered his Yele Haiti nonprofit organization to pay off a mistress.
Even as his Yele group was delivering 400,000 gallons of water throughout the capital city of Port-au-Prince, he had to repel front-page headlines accusing the Haitian-born singer and New York resident of taking people’s donations and using them for his personal use.
“Since some of you like to believe everything you read with out having Facts pass this around! Wyclef is A Alien from out of space,” he says in one of his Tweets. “If you Ride with me you are on the Right side or you can follow your slave master and believe what he tells you. Yele haiti 4 life.”
Right after the cataclysmic 7.0 earthquake reduced Port-au-Prince to crumbling remains, Wyclef was accused by The Smoking Gun of using donations to his Yele Haiti organization to purchase production material and for other personal use. While admitting mistakes, Wyclef adamantly denied the corruption charges in a subsequent emotional press conference. On March 11, The Smoking Gun (using a printed out tax return from Yele Haiti’s 2009 filing) again accused Wyclef of rerouting public donations through his charity to pay his alleged mistress, Zakiya Khatou-Chevassus, over $100,000.
Wyclef answers his critics in a series of unedited Tweets from his Twitter page:

“I have been spending money n my country since I was a Fugees! why is it now after the Quake I am being Excuse! They fear I’m gaining ground.”
