If you’re a true movie fan, you’ve heard about the hype surrounding Hurt Locker, and yes, it’s well deserved. The gritty, suspenseful story of a bomb disposal unit in Iraq, Hurt Locker’s portrayal of the psychology of war is stunning. The paranoia and suspense is almost unbearable. Director Kathryn Bigelow made Oscar history with her 2009 best director win. Bigelow, whose biggest competition came from ex-hubby, Avatar director James Cameron, was the first female to win the coveted award. — dark abyss
