Apparently a lover of a good suit, he’s taking Germany’s Hugo Boss AG to task over its decision to shutter its men’s suit plant in Ohio. Glover offered hugs and moral support to the Cleveland-area workers on the chopping block as he toured the plant on Tuesday. The actor had earlier staged a boycott of the company’s clothing at this year’s Oscars.
The plant will release 375 workers back into the unemployment pool as early as next month.
Glover held a news conference and appealed to Boss to reverse its shutdown decision, but the company says the decision will stand because the union representing the workers rejected concessions at the plant. They say it’s not globally competitive.
A noble undertaking for Glover, but it’s unclear why Ohio and why Hugo Boss specifically, versus the thousands of other companies laying off during this slump in the economy. I’m sure, however, those he’s fighting for aren’t looking a gift horse in the mouth. –gerald radford
