Prison Break-IN Earns Florida Man 15-Year Sentence

Sylvester Miles

I’ve heard of prison breaks before, but a prison break-IN? Apparently a Florida man couldn’t handle the heat of being released from “the joint” and put back on the streets, so he tried his darndest to re-enter the system.

A Florida paper says Sylvester Miles, 25, feared violent reprisals from family members of his manslaughter victim and “suffered severe cuts when he tried scaling a 12-foot-high (3.65-meter) barbed wire fence to break into the jail.”

Wouldn’t it have been easier to just committ another crime?  Just asking …

Nevertherless, with a few unnecessary cuts and bruises, he’s now gotten his wish. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison — the maximum penalty — for his attempted return to the Brevard County Detention Center, where he had been held following his conviction in the original manslaughter case. I’m sure officials were scratching their heads for a moment on this one, though … and it may have even be a sympathy ruling.

The newspaper said Jiles had only been on probation from the jail for a week before he tried to force his way back in. –gerald radford
