Sandra Bullock and Her Nazi-Clad Husband Ignite Furious Debate Among Blacks

Jesse James

While the nation and mainstream media continue to shed tears in their prolonged national mourning of Sandra Bullock’s imploding marriage to Jesse James, some disturbingly anti-Semitic photos have been unearthed that call Bullock’s innocent status into question.

Recently, US magazine showed James in his home photo giving a “Heil, Hitler” salute, miming the wicked dictator’s mustache and wearing a German soldier’s cap. The publication noted that James took this photo in 2004, while he and Bullock were dating. Many African Americans today are starting to view Bullock with a different lens after this episode. It’s too much of a coincidence for some blacks that James also had an affair with a woman, model Michelle McGee, who also liked to drape herself in Nazi memorabilia.

Some blacks find it hard to believe that Bullock was completely unaware of his rather dubious past that allegedly included neo-Nazi sympathies.

Neo-Nazis and other white supremacist groups are notorious for being virulently anti-black, anti-Semitic, anti-gay and for perpetrating violence against these groups throughout the decades that extend back to the Civil Rights Movement and beyond.

For his part, James’ lawyer told CNN that James is not anti-Semitic nor racist, but admitted James donned the Nazi-German cap in bad taste. The lawyer goes onto say that it was a “gag gift” from James’ Jewish godfather. He reiterated his belief that just because James owns Nazi memorabilia, that does not make him a Nazi lover or neo-Nazi, and added that James, 40, lived on an Israeli kibbutz for a month.

Regardless of the explanation, the blogs have been set aflame with this controversy that won’t die, and blacks have sides on this. One woman’s blog summed up the sentiments of one group of blacks when she wrote that “birds of a feather flock together and get married,” meaning that they believe that Bullock is far from the innocent darling and injured victim she’s being portrayed as. They believe Bullock had to know something about his checkered past and questionable fetishes.

Others, such as BET talk show host Mo’Nique, offered condolences and asked her to reach out to her if she needed to.

Do you believe Bullock’s soon-to-be ex has a fascination or sympathetic views on Nazism and neo-Nazism? And, the bigger question is this: does this call Bullock’s judgment and character into question? Have these revelations taken some of the luster off Bullock’s Academy Award for the movie Blindside?

Tell us what you think. –terry shropshire
