Florida Doctor Refused to Treat Obama Supporters

Florida Doctor Refused to Treat Obama SupportersA Florida-based urologist posted a sign on his office door stating that he refuses to provide medical care to any supporters of President Barack Obama.

On the door of Dr. Jack Cassell’s office is a blunt pronouncement of his stance and unqualified denunciation of Obama’s health care reform: “If you voted for Obama … seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your health care begin right now, not in four years.”

The ultra right-wing doctor, a registered Republican, confirms that he meant what he said, but when he was confronted by the Orlando Sentinel, he said he wouldn’t poll the political beliefs of prospective patients. Yet, he maintained that he doesn’t care if he loses business over the sign.

“I’m not turning anybody away. That would be unethical,” he said, seemingly backpedaling in a way that would make Michael Jackson jealous. But then the doctor recovered and shot back: “But if they read the sign and turn the other way, so be it.”

The newspaper stated that Cassell’s office is littered with anti-Democratic, anti-Obama literature. The sign on his lobby coffee table that houses much of his conservative publications reads: “This is what the morons in Washington have done to your health care. Take one, read it and vote out anyone who voted for it.”

Expectedly, Cassell’s extreme stance launched a backlash from his philosophical opposites, perhaps summed up by Rep. Alan Grayson [D-Fla.].

“Maybe he thinks the Hippocratic Oath says, ‘Do no good,’” Grayson said. “If this is the face of the right-wing in America, it’s the face of cruelty. Why don’t they change the name of the Republican Party to the Sore Loser Party?”

Political pundits and social scientists have voiced concern at the unprecedented ways in which the opposition to a president is being manifested. –terry shropshire
