Up-and-coming superstar Nicki Minaj decided not to join Rihanna on her “Last Girl on Earth” tour after all.
Organizers for Rihanna’s all-girl tour said on Monday that Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha were going to serve as opening acts for the 25-city national tour, which was to kick off in Seattle in July. But the eccentric Young Money star tweeted that she needs to concentrate her energy on completing her debut album.
Perhaps Minaj is working to repel the growing number of female artists who are spitting hate in her direction, the latest coming from rapper-actress Eve. From her Twitter account, however, Minaj only addressed her album as the reason for the pullout.
“Barbz I’m sorry 2 say I will not be going out on RiRi’s tour. I’ve decided 2 use that time 4 the completion of my album. Hope u understand,” Nicki Minaj tweeted to her followers on Tuesday, the day after tour organizers went public with her inclusion.
“Barbz, Thx 4 understanding. And Thanks to Rihanna 4 being a sweetheart and extending this great opportunity 2 me. Support the show! Luv, HB,” Minaj added.
In an interview with Vibe recently, Eve said Nicki is not equipped to knock her off the rap throne yet, though she is hesitant to ignite any estrogen beef.
“Trust me, no one’s competition for me and that sounds cocky but I seriously live in such an Eve world. And not in a crazy-everything-is-me-bubble, it’s just that I’m building an empire,” the 31-year-old says. “I go on Twitter and people say ‘Yo, knock Nicki Minaj out of the box,‘ but ultimately, we’re all helping each other and I’m happy seeing these chicks in the game. It’s too much testosterone. When I see another female, my immediate reaction is not ‘Oh I gotta go and get my s— right.’ I got 900 other things going on. I can’t keep worrying about what’s coming up behind me.”
Coming up behind Eve is Minaj’s recently debuted “Massive Attack,” the first single and video from her debut album. –terry shropshire
