For the 14th year, the World Natural Hair Health & Beauty Show returned to Atlanta on April 10-11. Organizers boast that this was the “biggest, baddest and best Natural Hair, Health & Beauty Show ever.”
The aim of this year’s event was to educate stylists and barbers on the benefits of adding damage-free hair care services for clients with natural hair, free of chemical relaxers. Additionally, stylists with clients that are considering transitioning from chemically treated hair to natural hair benefited from a host of workshops including the “Ceramic Styling for Natural Hair” workshop facilitated by Kenya L. Fauntleroy; “Hair Coloring” with Ayo Keisha Smith; “Techniques for Blending Natural Hair with Commercial Hair” with Tajuana Hughes and a host of other free and fee-based professional workshops. Barber workshops were also offered, “Quality Fades & Tapers” and “Barbering Business.”
Nutritionists have long encouraged healthy hair seekers to have a well-balanced diet. Organizers didn’t miss this opportunity and included on the show’s schedule were the “A Living Foods Experience” workshop facilitated by Tassili Maat of Tassili’s Raw Reality and “Transitioning to Healthy Eating” led by Yew 360.
This event was produced to promote good health and hair care to benefit the entire family. For parents who brought their children along, live performers encouraged reading and staying in school. Those in need of sophisticated and modern music tastes received a special treat. Staxx recording star N’dambi, a former backup singer for Erykah Badu, signed copies of her new CD Pink Elephant and performed Saturday evening.
Natural hair care specialist and show founder Taliah Waajid shares, “Achieving proper natural hair care is indeed a journey. Natural hair is beautiful when it is healthy. Enjoy your journey.” –yvette caslin
