Sinewy sex symbol Kelis announced that her new CD, Flesh Tone, will hit the public on July 6. The offering, which was produced by Black Eyed Peas front man will.i.am’s record label, features production by will.i.am, Free School, Boys Noize, Burnz, DJ Ammo and Benny Benassi.
Kelis, who was married to and then endured a contention-filled divorce from rap legend Nas, admits that the first single, “Acapella,” was inspired by their son, Knight.
“It’s very ‘last woman standing,'” Kelis told MTV News about the video and song, which features David Guetta. “It’s like the end-of-the-world child type thing. It’s got all these ethnic influences in it. There is a Native American element to it and an African element to it and an Asian element to it. It’s really tribal and kind of surreal at the same time.”
We shall see how Kelis’ first post-marriage project goes over with the public. — terry shropshire
