Nina J. Spicer was an ambitious, young woman who for her future, but her life was cut short when she was diagnosed with stage four liver and lung cancer.
The 33-year-old mother of three, endured several series of chemotherapy and numerous medical procedures before succumbing to cancer just six days before her birthday.
The Nina J. Spicer Foundation was created with the help of family and friends to preserve her legacy and to offer help and support to families who’ve been affected by cancer.
“We want to help mothers and young girls reach their goals. The foundation will provide educational programs, motivational programs and financial assistance for those affected by cancer. We just want to make sure that people who are battling with cancer have support,” says Victor Evans, Nina’s father.
The foundation hosted it’s first annual hair show at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta, the proceeds of which will be used towards the purchase of a dance studio in honor of Spicer who taught dance.
Charaza Knight of Chaza fashion made her contribution to the cause by providing handmade corsettes for the fundraiser, along with a host of makeup artists and stylists who also lent their talents.
“It doesn’t matter if you think you have cancer or not, when you go to the doctor get checked. If we would’ve done that we would’ve known she had cancer, and maybe we could’ve saved her,’ lamented the elder Evans. –christian johnson
