Jay-Z Sues Boston Red Sox All-Star for Ripping Off 40/40 Concept

Jay-ZJay-Z has been known to make diss records aimed at emcees who bite his rapping style. However, the Brooklyn, N.Y.-born rap mogul is even more ruthless when it comes to entrepreneurs who attempt to rip off the name and reputation of his businesses.

On April 15, Jay-Z filed a lawsuit against Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz for infringing on the name of his 40/40 clubs. Ortiz recently opened a club in Santo Domingo called Forty-Forty. Jay-Z believes that Ortiz got the idea to steal the name after he visited the club when the Red Sox were in New York to face off with the Yankees.

Both clubs are named after the elite group of baseball players who have stolen 40 bases and hit 40 home runs in a single season. Jay-Z is seeking $5 million in damages. –a.r.
