Hip-hop artist Khia is known for her venomous verbal assaults, raunchy lyrics and all-around bad girl attitude. With the release of her forthcoming album, Motor Mouf A.K.A. Khia Shamone, she is finally shedding some of that aggressive persona that has made her popular and revealing her life as a family-oriented woman.
“People want the drama. They never get into my children, my family and my life. It’s always about who[m] I’m roasting. I like to clock on and be ‘My Neck, My Back’ and clock off and be mommy. I love to decorate and I love to cook. I am definitely a Martha Stewart. So I enjoy both sides, but family is first for me,” she says.
Putting family first has been instrumental to Khia’s success as she’s been able to find strength in the support of her daughter, Khia Jr., and son, Rashawn Jamal.
“My children and I grew up together. They saw the process and hard work and it’s been an inspiration for them. Now they tour with me sometimes and help with anything that I need. They have been my biggest cheerleaders.”
It’s that support and love of family that Khia is finding solace in after her recent divorce following 10 years of marriage.
“My music and traveling had a lot to do with the divorce. My husband and I grew up and went in different directions but we’re able to maintain a good relationship. We will always be family and friends, so that everybody can love and grow and keep negativity out,” she says.
