Middle School Principal Catches Flack for Allowing T.I. to Speak With Students

Terry Oatts, the principal at Woodland Middle School in Stockbridge, Ga., has been ridiculed by several parents who are upset that he allowed T.I. to speak at the school’s assembly program in March. One parent, Tom Myers, e-mailed Oatts and berated him for not informing him and giving parents a choice to keep their kids out of the assembly program.

T.I. is a convicted felon and was recently released from prison after serving a one-year prison sentence for attempting to purchase an illegal machine gun. He has been required to serve 400 hours of community service to remain free.

Oatts responded to his detractors by saying, “I thought about asking a guy who snorted cocaine and got arrested for DUI when he was 30 to come and speak to our kids, but President George W. Bush was not available.” –a.r.
