NFL Draft Goes Prime Time in New York; The Winners and Losers

alt

The NFL draft made its prime time debut last night at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Suspenseful and filled with drama, the first round of the draft proved to be as exciting as a fourth-and-goal play after the two-minute warning. Sports jargon aside, here are the winners and losers of the 2010 NFL draft. –amir shaw

Winners

Detroit Lions

For years, the Lions have made the mistake of drafting offensively and totally disregarding defense. As a result, they lose 10 or more games every year and find themselves in the same place year after year. By drafting Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska, they have a legitimate defensive player who can add toughness to their stagnant defense.

Kansas City Chiefs

NFL quarterbacks fell in love with the Kansas City Chiefs defense in 2009. With the addition of Eric Berry from Tennessee, quarterbacks will find it more difficult to play pitch and catch with their receivers.

Losers

Denver Broncos

The Broncos decided to roll the dice on University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow. Although he had a dynamic college career, his showing at the NFL combine proved that he wasn’t worthy to be a first-round pick.

Buffalo Bills

Sometimes, taking the best talent available is not a wise decision. The Bills drafted the highly touted running back C.J. Spiller when they already have Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson doing admirable work in their backfield. Still in need of a quarterback, the Bills should have taken Jimmy Clausen.
