DMX Has Moment of Clarity: Claims Stolen Royalties in NYC Lawsuit

DMX

Rapper DMX, born Earl Simmons, may be in an Arizona jail right now, but lock up has given him the opportunity to step out of the haze that’s been his life for several years now and realize a few things. In a moment of clarity, he says he’s discovered he’s been ripped off for the past 10 years by a company that was hired to handle his royalty payments.

The “Get at me Dog” rapper, 39, filed a lawsuit April 26 claiming that Rich Kid Entertainment 1 and related companies have withheld royalities payments, dating back 10 years, on some of his most popular work. He also claims in the suit that the company made deals letting record labels reproduce his work without his knowledge or authorization.

Among the projects he claims he’s getting stiffed on are hits that put him on the map such as “Get At Me Dog” and “Party Up.”

“From 2000 through 2008, (DMX) was in and out of jail and changed representatives numerous times. These were some of the factors contributing to any delay” in bringing the case, the lawsuit notes.

He’s currently serving a six-month term in a Phoenix jail for violating probation by failing a drug test. –gerald radford
