Grammy Award-winning gospel artist CeCe Winans is on the list of amazing talent appearing at Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound gospel competition. Winans, with her vibrant personality, will be trekking to the 14 cities where the national competition will be held.
“I’ve been [judging] for two years and this year [I was asked] to co-host. I am real[ly] excited. My past experience was incredible. It is not just about the singing. These choirs have their routines, their uniforms and it is amazing. A lot of time and work goes into each performance,” shares Winans. “I am inspired because the choirs come with powerful songs and lyrics about love, peace and happiness.”
Gospel music is the foundation for many of today’s chart toppers, spanning the genres of country, pop, R&B, blues, etc. It is the basis of the careers of many of today’s pop stars, including Whitney Houston and John Legend. “Gospel is spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. Choirs are the rock of gospel music. That’s where it all began. We all enjoy it and we kind of take it for granted because these [choirs] give up their time to inspire our lives. For those of us who attend church weekly, we’re inspired on a continual basis. Gospel music is about the good news and whenever you hear it, you are guaranteed to be lifted up,” offers Winans.
Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound is a national program that recognizes church choirs nationwide, offering them a chance to win the title of “Best Church Choir in America” and up to $50,000 in cash and prizes.
“You are going to be touched by the Gospel. The audience is full of joy and on fire. [I encourage choirs to] get involved and register so you can be a part of this great celebration,” concludes Winans. –yvette caslin
