White College Student Wears Blackface While Impersonating Lil Wayne

The administration at Bethel University is investigating a racial incident that has black students upset. During the school’s annual “Mr. BU” fundraiser for the student group Acting on AIDS, white students performed a skit that featured several rap songs.

However, one student kept his back to the crowd until the final song. He eventually turned around and was dressed in baggy pants, dreadlocks and gold teeth. The student was also covered in blackface.

Black students immediately criticized the show and demanded that the students who performed the skit be reprimanded. The men involved in the skit e-mailed an apology to all of the undergraduates and could face suspensions.

Although Jay-Z believes that hip-hop has helped race relations, insensitive white individuals are using hip-hop images to mock black culture. In a similar incident, white college students in San Diego, Calif., mocked the 1980s rap group N.W.A by wearing blackface at a party called the “Compton Cookout.” –a.r.
