White Police Sergeant Suspended After Lying About Being Shot by Black Assailant

Robert RalstonWhat is one of the favorite tactics white criminals employ to camouflage their devious crimes? Blame it on a black man. It worked for a while when a white man killed his wife in cold blood in Boston in the 1980s, setting off a vicious, door-to-door manhunt that violated the rights of hundreds of young black males.

It worked for a while when Susan Smith drowned her own two kids in the Carolinas and tried to say a black man carjacked her and took her kids. And the “blame-the-black-man” card was raised again in the City of Brotherly Love.

A white Philadelphia police sergeant has been suspended from the force after purposely shooting himself in the shoulder and falsely reporting that he’d been shot by a black criminal, media reports state.

Sgt. Robert Ralston faces termination after a meticulous investigation unraveled his story of being shot by a black assailant, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Ralston said when he stopped two black men for questioning, one of them pulled a gun and aimed it at his head. He reported that when he knocked the gun away, it went off and grazed him.

Ralston’s account set off a wide and expensive manhunt for the two men until his account of the incident crumbled under repeated questioning.

“There’s some speculation he did it to get attention, or to get transferred,” said the city’s police chief, who called it a “terrible and embarrassing chapter in our history.”

Remarkably, the 21-year police veteran is not going to face criminal charges, despite the fact that a regular citizen would be charged if they willfully reported a false crime. However, Ralston is going to have to reimburse the city for the cost of the manhunt. –terry shropshire
