Apparently, President Barack Obama is not too keen on playing a round of golf with the ultra-conservative firebrand Rush Limbaugh. And the president delivered his answer to the invitation in a way that could be interpreted in more ways than one.
When author Zev Chafets asked the president to play a round of golf with Limbaugh, a Democratic adviser relayed the president’s response, saying that “Limbaugh can play with himself,” the New York Post reports. No word if the response was verbatim.
Here’s the irony: Limbaugh, an extremist right-wing commentator who uses his radio show as a bully pulpit to bash Obama relentlessly, was nevertheless very anxious to play a round with Obama.
“He’s the president of the United States,” Chafets recalls Limbaugh saying. “If any president asked me to meet him, or play golf with him, I’d do it. But I promise you that will never happen. His base on the left would have a s— fit.”
Limbaugh actually got a kick out of the president’s alleged response that, posed with the opportunity to play golf with his polar political opposite, came back with “Limbaugh can play with himself.”
Limbaugh came back with, “Now wait a second, they’re confusing me with Bill Clinton.” Limbaugh spent time on his show rehashing the story, actually laughing that the story has become one of the most popular on the Internet.
