Could things be going any better for 16-year-old star Keke Palmer? Probably not. Since we last checked in with Palmer, she was named one of the richest kids in television by the New York Post, she’s now in the final stages of completing her second album with Interscope Records, and her Mad Styles By True Jackson clothing line continues to fly off the shelves at Walmart. Not bad for someone who only recently reached the legal age to drive. During a recent interview with rolling out, the multifaceted Palmer seemed more interested in looking towards the future, instead of basking in the rays of past accomplishments. Here’s an excerpt from our time with her.
There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding your new TV movie, “True Jackson: Trapped In Paris.” Why should viewers tune in when it airs?
You should tune in and watch because it’s a really good movie. It gives you a chance to have a good time and to have something that you can watch with your brother and sister. It has laughs; it has adventure, and just a lot of good, clean fun.
Tell us a little bit about your clothing line. Things appear to be going really well with it.
It was inspired by the show ‘True Jackson VP,’ which I think is awesome when you think about the idea that they came up with. For the people that watch the show, they can then wear the stuff that True Jackson designs. So I love that part of it … and the stuff is really cute too. There is a lot of cute stuff for girls, and it’s very affordable.
What can we expect from your new album on Interscope?
Definitely R&B, hip-hop and pop music will be on this album … everything that teenagers listen to. When people listen to my music, I want them to feel good, and listen to the words and feel like there is someone that they have something in common with. Some of my idols are Aaliyah, Brandy and TLC, and I would love to have an album that fills the void of where they left off.
