The most dominating tennis player of this generation, Serena Williams, and Grammy-winning rapper-actor Common have terminated their long-term relationship, multiple media reports state.
The tennis terror and the hip-hop heavyweight have simply “grown apart” in recent times, or at least according to the report that’s snaking its way through media circles. Common and Williams were just spotted all boo’d up for the premiere of the comedy Date Night in April. But the New York Post reported that Williams was a conspicuous no-show during the premiere preceding the May 4 opening of Just Wright, the first movie to feature Common in a leading role.
Williams absence might be be explained by the fact that she was training with sister Venus in Italy for the second Grand Slam tournament of the year. Serena and Venus Williams are the top two ranked tennis players in the world for the first time in seven years, and have dominated tennis news for more than a decade,
The supposed breakup took a lot of people by surprise, simply because the lyrical lion was just on the “Wendy Williams Show” last week discussing a long-term future with Williams. “It would be a great thing, but I can’t say that right now,” Common told the popular talk show host. “I would love to be married and have children someday. So if Serena is that person, it would be a lovely thing.”
Common is currently putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album, The Believer, due out this fall. But the Chicago native has cast his full energies into becoming one of the great actors in Hollywood.
“My hip-hop background can’t catapult me to where I want to be as an actor,” he told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I do acknowledge that hip- hop has built a foundation for me in the way that it allows me different experiences as a performer and taught me how to endure when you’re dealing with difficult situations. But acting is a different medium. I know I have to go through the process of training and the things that it takes to become a great actor … my goal is to become one of the greatest.” –terry shropshire
