Singer Al Mac Will has found her lane in the music industry, with the introduction of the urban country gospel genre

After having a near death experience, she took time to re-evaluate her relationship with God, which has in turn helped with the making of her album Stand Still.

Listeners should prepare to be captivated by the fullness of her voice and even more so by her lyrical content. —christian johnson

Where did the concept of Urban Country Gospel come from?

One morning I woke up with the name country gospel in my head and shortly after the revelation I had a conversation with Stevie Wonder about it. He told me that I should call it Urban Country Gospel so that I could have my own genre of music, and that’s how we got the title.

What is Urban Country Gospel?

My project — urban country gospel music — is a music that deals with topics that people don’t like to talk about. “Stand Still” was written about the years of ups and downs in my marriage. It was one of the first songs I recorded for the album. God came to me telling me to stand still. It tells stories about wisdom, inspiration, and revelations all in story form.

How did it feel to have a legend like Stevie Wonder giving you advice?

It’s been a phenomenal experience working with someone of his caliber and magnitude. I needed someone to help me walk through this process and help me to get it done, and he was so informative. He was sensitive and supportive and he gave me so much instruction … it was just a blessing.

What’s the ultimate message you want people to get from your album?

I want to challenge people to think, change, and ultimately give them hope. Every song has a wisdom message. I want to challenge people … give them inspiration to change and ultimately provide a sense of hope for them.
