Actor-singer Mishon Ratliff, co-star of TV One’s “Lincoln Heights” is a clear example of natural talent.
After signing a recording contract with Dynasty Records, the young artist went on to release two albums on the label.
Ratliff, who began singing at the age of nine, is ready to return to the studio after taking a break to pursue a career in acting. His recent single, “Turn It Up” featuring Roscoe Dash, has been receiving heavy rotation from radio stations across the country.
He’s currently working with super producers The Dream, Sean Garrett, and Polo Da Don as he prepares for the June 5 release of his mixtape, as well as his third studio album, The Yearbook, which is scheduled to be released later this year. –christian johnson
How have you balanced being a student and having a career in entertainment?
I have to work really hard, probably twice as hard as most kids, It’s definitely a lot of responsibility and a lot of hard work. The school that I go to specializes in independent studies, so I can take my work wherever I want. It’s just my responsibility to get [my work] done and get it turned in.
What was the recording process like for you?
The process has been a learning experience. I’ve always loved music, so my first few times in the studio was fun. I got to soak in a lot of knowledge from great producers; that has inspired me as a writer and producer.
The title of your album is Yearbook; how did you come up with this title?
I think The Yearbook is gonna be an incredible album and it’s gonna really showcase who I am as a young man and as an artist. Throughout this year, I’ve been recording an album and now that it’s the end of the process, we’ve put everything together like you would a yearbook.
