Travel the world; the world is waiting for you. That’s what Dr. Mike Weaver has been able to do. The accomplished public health practitioner and researcher has been intricately involved in discussions regarding public issues affecting people of color around the world.
He’s conducted meaningful research in both Louisiana (post Hurricanes Katrina and Rita) and the African Diaspora. We find Dr. Mike in Sydney, Australia, today, where he and Sheila E (of Prince fame) caught up with each other. “Sheila E. was giving a drumming workshop and being part of a jam session in Sydney while I was there. We crossed paths at the Red Fern Community Center (otherwise known as “da Block”) in South Sydney. Red Fern is where all indigenous people were sent in order to be put out of the city of Sydney,” explains Dr. Mike of the locale’s fascinating history.
While traveling the world exploring the consciousness that others have come to know as value added to the day, Dr. Mike explores and depicts people of color in a new and more realistic way. He spent time with aboriginal brothers and sisters there too, where he found intellectual cultural and intellectual stimulation by design.
A friend of mine, Bangladesh, is going down under too, so as you prepare and wonder where you can go, we are showing you Sydney and what there is there. Dr. Mike recommends a stay at the Sheraton Four Points in Darling Bay. So thanks Dr. Mike for reporting from down under, so we can see the greatness of what there is to be, down on the block in south Sydney.
“[It’s a great place. I’d love to go back. [It’s] by far the cleanest city I have ever visited,” marvels Dr. Mike.
So enjoy your travel as you make your way. Check out Sydney, and take advantage of few of our travel tips and check out these spots along your way.
