Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers had no answers for the rotund Glen “Big Baby” Davis and the diminutive Nate Robinson. The two reserves for the Boston Celtics came off the bench in the second half of Game 4 of the NBA Finals to lead the Celtics to a 96-86 victory over the Lakers.
While Davis pounded his way through the Lakers defense, Robinson used speed and agility to blow past defenders. The two combined for 30 points and allowed the Celtics to pull away from the Lakers, who held a two-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter.
Along with points and rebounds, Robinson and Davis provided an emotional lift for the Celtics. Boston fans roared when the 5-foot-10 Robinson stood nose-to-stomach with Lakers forward Lamar Odom after the 6-foot-10 Odom slammed Robinson to the ground. Davis was given a thunderous ovation as he drooled from his mouth after celebrating a three-point play.
Bryant finished with 33 points and Paul Pierce led the Celtics in points with 19. Game 5 is Saturday in Boston. –a.r.
