Out of sight, out of mind. That’s the way things go in today’s society. When it comes to entertainers, that phrase becomes even more pronounced. Put it like this; if you aren’t releasing albums and movies, or making guest appearances on “The Tonight Show,” then people automatically assume that your career is dead.
Take Lil Jon for example. At face value, one could understand the basis of the hypothesis if someone said, “Lil Jon has fallen off … Crunk must be dead.” After all, the energetic rapper/producer hasn’t released anything significant on the urban side for years … he’d be the first to admit that. But he’d also be the first to counter that claim by revealing the broad scope of his still flourishing career.
“People in the urban market always want to ask where I’ve been,” he shared during a recent photo shoot with rolling out. “And I understand that, because I haven’t really been doing anything in that area. But my music is far more diverse than that. I bet no other culture is asking me what I’ve been up to, because they see me. They see me making records for Miley Cyrus and Christina Aguilera. They see me in the clubs Dj’ing and turning their night into their best party experiences ever. What I do is so diverse right now, and I’m busier now than I’ve ever been before. If you listen to the new album Crunk Rock, you’ll see how I’m all over the place with the types of music that I fu** with, and the kinds of audiences that I cater to. Black people just need to step out of their comfort zone. Once they do that, they’ll see where I’ve been.” –dewayne rogers
