When patrons and clients come into the quite cozy Three Peas Art Lounge, owners Maya-Camille Broussard and Chrishon Lampley hope they find it to be a place they can relate to.  “When you come in here we tell people this should feel like your living room … you have big comfy couches [and] chairs — it is minimal, but it is comfortable. We wanted it to be a less intimidating way to experience art,” said Broussard.

Celebrating their first year of business partnership together the two met through a mutual friend and knew instinctively that a business of some sort was in the makings. Broussard is the art purveyor.  Art work in the 1,000+ square foot space changes every two months. “I was always involved in multifaceted forms of art whether it was dance, visual, music or theater. … I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be an entrepreneur and involve the arts,” says Broussard.

Lampley handles the customer service side of the business. Coming from a high-end retail background, Lampley boasts over 15 years of experience dealing with customers. “I know how to engage a client, as well as dealing face-to-face. Problem solving [and] any type of customer service is what I know, and that is how we knew it was going to be a good connection,” explains Lampley.

Three Peas features a full-service top shelf bar and serves small plate dishes like cheese and dessert, in addition to coffee and loose leaf teas. The space also accommodates events. Asked about what it is like growing a business in the posh South Loop community, Lampley says, “The great thing about the South Loop is that it is a ‘melting pot.’  There is a little bit of everybody from 25 to 44, but they all see Three Peas in different ways.”

Not content to rest on their laurels, this bold team plans to expand to other states so other art lovers will be able to experience Three Peas’ unique brand of creativity. –tony binns
