She’s enjoyed successful runs on Broadway with Aida and in critically acclaimed productions of The Color Purple and Chicago.

“I really love to act.  When I played Shug Avery in The Color Purple, I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I liked playing around with the sass of the character,” she said. “I am currently trying to make the transition into TV/film.  It’s a tough process, but if I keep at it, I know I’ll get my dream show or film! I’ve done three Broadway shows, which I’m grateful for … I will always do theatre, too!”

As she was bustling around getting ready for a pre-dinner for the awards show, which BET’s Debra Lee was set to host, I had the opportunity to ask her about her look for the night.

She gave me the rundown:

Her dark gray dress is by BCBGMaxAzria and she’s sporting an edgy pixie cut to rock it out.

Her outfit is accentuated by jewel encrusted, dark colored giraffe earrings and makeup by Makeup Forever, including Kissable Couture, which is produced by African American entrepreneur AJ Crimson.

The shoes, like the dress, are BCBGMaxAzria.

She finishes the look off with Christian Dior D2 designer shades.
