The saying ‘Don’t put all your eggs in one basket’ is one to live by. This doesn’t necessarily suggest to plan for failure, it suggests for one to plant multiple seeds of success. Rapper/ songwriter P-Live understands this concept and has applied it to his everyday life. Even though he has a record deal with Bungalo/ Universal he is still focused on accomplishing goals set in other facets of his life simultaneously.
In the next 5 months, what do you want to say you’ve accomplished?
I want to say i accomplished growth! I honestly came a long way. From being somebody trying to rap amongst a group of people, to being a name people know before they meet you. That says to me my faith, persistence, and hard work have and will continue to pay off.
Besides music, what is something else you pride yourself on?
My ability to pay attention and my patience. I’m young with a career in culinary and a restaurant I’m about to re-open. I would also have to say my ability to be honest.
What can we anticipate from your forthcoming album?
Everything the last album was missing and more! This time I’m giving people what then need the hear. Not what they want to here. They need to hear real SH**!
Name one singer and one rapper who you would want to collaborate with, and the reason.
That’s a tough question. Too many people I’d like to vibe wit. I think it would [have been] dope to do something with Isacc Hayes. Why? Isacc was dope! If I worked with a rapper it would depend on the track and the purpose. I think Jeezy and I would make a ill colabo.
Detroit is being portrayed as one of the worst cities in the world by the media. Does this affect the tone of your music?
Not at all. I think bigger than Detroit in hopes that I can do better for the whole city. I mean, I really wanna bring the music back. Far as what the media portrays about Detroit, I have to ask. Isn’t the same sh** going on every where else? I’ll give you my political view in the next interview.
Talk about the community project you are working on with the youth.
I’m working on a few things with the school system. I’m trying to give the youth trades and jobs. You know, many young people don’t have a plan for life after high school. From experience I know that failing to plan is like planning to fail. I’m emphasizing the importance of actively thinking about the future. Music is like sports. One drastic injury and its hard to bounce back. You gotta have a plan B, and oftentimes C, to keep you on your toes.
Other than the studio, what environment brings out your best creative ideas?
[laughs] the toilet! Seriously, the kitchen. I love cooking. Food and good music go hand and hand.
What do you wanna tell you fans about everything you’re working on right now?
I promise this time around the whole world will know P-LIVE! The album’s coming soon, be ready to support the movement!
