Atlanta Braves Foundation Brings Out Heavy Hitters for Inaugural Alumni Weekend

The Atlanta Braves Inaugural Alumni Weekend culminated with the second annual Atlanta Braves Foundation Diamond Gala on June 27. The Las Vegas themed event took place at the Loews Hotel in midtown Atlanta. The star-studded night featured a who’s who of baseball players. In attendance were some members of the 2010 Atlanta Braves team, coaches, fans and alumni like Phil Niekro, Dale Murphy, Sid Bream, and more.

Over 600 guests played casino-style games like blackjack, roulette, craps and Texas hold-em poker with “Braves Bucks.” Attendees played alongside Braves players who served as dealers. The night also included live entertainment, silent and live auctions.

The evening’s live auctions included a trip for two to see the Braves take on the Mets in New York, a Business Class Elite Delta Airlines Trip for two to anywhere in the world, and a four-day, three-night vacation in Los Suenos, Costa Rica.

More than 100,000 fans attended the other activities during the weekend. Events included the first ever Celebrity-Alumni Softball Classic and meet and greets for alumni and fans at Turner Field. In the end, all of the activities helped raise approximately $350,000 to benefit the Atlanta Braves Foundation community grants program.

Atlanta Braves outfielder, Jason Heyward, expressed his gratitude at the gala. “Thank you to the fans, as always. We appreciate your support,” he said. –tarin harris
