Is Diddy Trying to Make Rick Ross the Next Biggie?

It wasn’t the first time that Diddy backed a rotund rapper who was suave and lyrical.

The image of Diddy hyping Rick Ross as he rapped his latest hit, “B.M.F.,” at the 2010 V-103 Car Show in Atlanta was reminiscent of the days when he rocked the mic with Biggie Smalls.

Since the start of 2010, Diddy and Ross have been inseparable. They have appeared on songs together, they have performed on stage and have discussed creating a group called The Supreme Team. Diddy even compared Ross to Biggie.

“I guess him and Biggie are locked in a room,” Diddy said. “My man D-Roc even said that ‘My man here is sounding like our homie.’ I don’t know what was going on in the studio, but the spirits [were] connecting.”

Ross has tried to take over where Biggie left off by comparing himself to the deceased rapper. On the song “Speedin’,” Ross said that he was the ‘Biggie of my city.” And on “Tears of Joy,” which is featured on his new album, Teflon Don, Ross said that he was “Biggie Smalls in the Flesh.”

Will Rick Ross become the next Biggie Smalls, or are he and Diddy tarnishing Biggie’s good name with such talk? –a.r.
