It is difficult to imagine some of the things that go on daily in our great country. A 13-year-old being shot 22 times, a man dragging a woman behind a truck after being hit in the head with a hammer, and walking into a grocery store and being sprayed with a mixture that contains semen.
Yes semen, sperm.
In Gaithersburg, Md., a woman shopping in a grocery store experienced such an event.
It happened at the Giant store located at 842 Muddy Branch Road on July 15, 2010. While walking down the aisle, the victim, who shall remain anonymous, noticed a man staring at her in the store. When she was leaving the store, she indicated that she felt a liquid hitting the back of her neck. Initially, the woman said that she thought it was water coming from the store’s sprinkler system. However, witnesses said they saw a man spray her and then run off and jump in a gray automobile.
Being astute, the woman gave her clothing to police for examination. Results from the laboratory testing revealed that the liquid was human semen. On July 29, 2010, 28-year-old Michael Wayne Edwards Jr. was arrested by the Gaithersburg police and charged with second-degree assault with additional charges forthcoming.
Police used surveillance video footage in which Edwards was observed using a Giants reward card. Second-degree assault is a misdemeanor. Future charges may possibly include reckless endangerment. He is currently out on a $4,000 bond, but that might change if other victims come forward, since after Edwards’ arrest and interview it was revealed to police that additional unidentified victims exist.
Semen is a whitish-grey liquid emitted from the urethra, a tube in the penis. Semen can be a vector for many sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. The sperm in semen are delicate cells and have a limited ability to survive after being released through ejaculation. If a an HIV-infected sperm cell is exposed to air, it can live a few minutes. –torrance stephens, ph.d.
