New York police officers continue to act imprudently when it comes to the safety of civilians.
On Sunday, Aug. 8, two uniformed and three plainclothes policemen fired 46 bullets at Angel Alvarez and Luis Soto during a block party that took place on Lenox Avenue.
Reportedly, Alvarez and Soto began fighting at the party because of a disagreement over a woman. Soto pulled out a gun and Alvarez lunged for it. After retrieving the weapon, Alvarez shot once and police began to shoot at Alvarez and Soto.
Police shot Soto five times and Alvarez was shot 21 times. Alvarez is currently in stable condition. One police officer was shot by a fellow officer.
Attendees say that police did not tell Alverez and Soto that they were under arrest and began firing once they had them cornered.
Over 200 men, women and children were at the block party during the time of the shooting. At press time, no officers have been charged in Soto’s death. –amir shaw
