Kanye West kept his promise by releasing another new song yesterday in an effort to continue his G.O.O.D. Friday movement. This week’s release is “Lord Lord Lord” (feat. Mos Def, Swizz Beatz, Raekwon & Charlie Wilson). While the blogosphere is certainly thankful for Kanye’s musical benevolence, it has to be noted that the motives aren’t as noble as ‘Ye would have you believe.
As an insider in West’s camp recently revealed directly to rolling out, this is nothing more than a desperate attempt to get people to like him again. “It finally hit ‘Ye how bad he f*cked up with the Taylor Swift mess,” the source shared. “It didn’t hit him until he came out with ‘Power’ and the white stations weren’t really f*cking with him. There’s no reason for a song that jams like that not to be doing better than what it is. It’s because he f*cked up, and people are fed up. So now, he just releases music and apologizes every five minutes because he’s desperate to get them to like him again. He used to say that he wanted less fans, but now that he has it, he doesn’t like it. As much as Kanye wants to believe he’s a rapper, he’s not … He’s a pop artist. And without popularity, he has nothing. He needs those white fans back.”
That was indeed a mouthful. Well, only time will tell if Kanye has what it takes to win back those who swore him off following Taylor-gate. I guess we won’t know his level of success until those first week album sales are released. Until then, check out the new music. —djr
